If we look at creativity in all its forms (engineering, science, arts etc.), there is one thing these disciplines all have in common when it comes to attaining excellence: they all need time and space to develop, great artists often have sponsors who take the financial pressure off of them so they can have space to create. Well published authors can command advances so they can consecrate time to research and writing, athletes also have sponsors to help train, exceptional students obtain bursaries, again to give them time and space to develop their gifts. All these things are impossible in times of warfare.
In warfare, the only imperative is survival, the arts and leisure industries (restaurants, golf clubs etc.) die out fast as necessity takes the center stage of life. So Solomon’s blessing was most certainly wisdom but his second blessing was peace.
If we are to develop the Kingdom of God in to all areas of society we need peace on all our borders to do so. What are our “borders” in this day and age? Some examples could be our ears, eyes, mouth and mind. Though these are often spoken of as “gates” they are also borders we need to guard. Our homes also have borders and we need our families to be physically and spiritually protected. But the biggest border I believe is relationships. Establishing good relashionships and fixing healthy borders guards us from wasting “time and space” but also from fighting fights that the Lord is not telling us to fight. We need time and space to be creative, if we are busy fighting someone elses battles for them (outside of God’s will of course) then our life will be eaten up, so to speak, and our creative voice will never reach the excellence or display the Kingdom in it’s fullness. This is not an encouragement to selfishness but an ardour to see Christ in us expressed in His fullness.
(This also ties in quite nicely to a sermon from Bill Johnson which states that God will not build His house on a “bloodshed” ministry. He was talking about God saying to King David that David could not build His house as he had blood on his hands but Solomon would build it in a time of peace. This makes sense because culture is not developed in a warfare environment.)
The Lord bless you and keep you and cause His face to shine on you, the Lord lift up the light of His countenance upon you and give you peace on all your borders.
